About TMJ Treatment:

Maxillofacial concept x-ray jaws

When the complex joints that allow us to eat and speak aren’t functioning properly, they can cause a number of problems, many of which aren’t typically associated with problematic dentistry. When the jaw is not properly aligned with the rest of the skull due to a disorder of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), Raleigh, NC, patients may suffer from a variety of aches and pains throughout the body. Thankfully, Dr. DesRosiers has advanced training in the area of neuromuscular dentistry, and has helped a great number of patients find relief!

Because many of these common symptoms can be caused by other factors, people with TMJ disorder often have trouble finding a diagnosis. Many don’t realize the answer to relieving their symptoms may lie in the hands of their dentist.

Advanced Training in TMJ Treatment

Having completed countless hours of training surrounding neuromuscular dentistry at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI), Dr. DesRosiers has the ability to evaluate your symptoms using advanced techniques and high-tech equipment. Transcutaneous Electro-neural Stimulation (TENS) equipment allows him to measure the electrical activity of your muscles to determine the ideal position of your jaw in relationship to your skull. Electromyography (EMG) gives the ability to accurately measure the presence of muscle stress and find an optimum bite. In some cases, sonography may be used to detect any popping or clicking that indicates muscular disharmony or degenerative joints.

All of the information gathered during your evaluation will be used to determine your best course of treatment to find permanent relief. Bite adjustment can often be corrected using orthotic therapy or by restoring teeth position with treatments such as crowns or dental implants. Not only does TMJ treatment help relieve your symptoms, but by treating your jaw alignment upfront, you may experience better results in any cosmetic changes you choose to make down the road.

If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s quite possible you have TMJ disorder, and Raleigh, NC, neuromuscular dentist, Dr. DesRosiers, can help! Contact our office to request your comprehensive evaluation today.
